Masih banyak bagian dari alam semesta ini yang masih belum dijelajahi manusia. Tak ada yang tahu juga kalau ternyata ada sebuah kekuatan yang selama ini menjaga keseimbangan alam semesta ini agar tidak terjadi kehancuran. Mereka menamakan dirinya Green Lantern Corps. Setiap anggota Green Lantern Corps memiliki sebuah cincin yang memberi mereka kekuatan di luar batas kekuatan apa pun.
Ketika sebuah kekuatan berencana untuk menghancurkan keseimbangan ini, satu-satunya yang menjadi harapan adalah anggota terbaru Green Lantern Corps yang bernama Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds). Hal adalah seorang pilot muda yang berbakat namun sedikit ceroboh dan suka pamer. Berbeda dengan kebanyakan anggota Green Lantern Corps, Hal adalah manusia pertama yang berhasil mendapatkan cincin Green Lantern.
Semua anggota Green Lantern Corps menganggap remeh Hal karena selama ini memang tak ada satu pun manusia yang sanggup mengenakan cincin Green Lantern. Yang mereka tidak tahu adalah bahwa Hal justru adalah satu-satunya anggota yang memiliki kelebihan dibanding mereka semua. Hal memiliki rasa kemanusiaan yang sangat tinggi. Mampukah Hal membuktikan bahwa ia memang pantas menjadi anggota Green Lantern Corps?
